Which Ranger?

I have 10k to spend and have a couple of Ford Rangers to look at; a 2015 double can 2.2 TDCi XL and a 2016 3.2TDCi Wildtrak. Which would you prefer and why? The Wildtrak has more miles. Both are manual.

Personally I wouldn’t,they both have potentially expensive issues.If pushed I would go for the 3.2 and replace the engine oil pump.

I’ve looked at a few when changing my last truck, ended up buying a hilux. Not as smart looking as the Ranger but felt better built and so far been super reliable.

As a Wildtrak Ranger owner of just twelve months. My advice would be get something from another manufacturer.
Or simply burn some wads of cash to get a similar result to Ranger ownership.
I'd let you have a drive in mine. But it's been at the local Ford Stealership for the last three weeks, and I don't know when I'm getting it back yet!

I would avoid the 2.2 manual due to its lethargy off idle. I have an auto 2.2 that continues to provide great service. If you must have a manual then the 3.2 is great [but not as good as the current 2.0 twin turbo]. Yes, at that mileage I would change the engine oil pump if not already done recently. Mine was changed last year at around 70,000 miles iirc.
Budgets can seldom be rigid but if it absolutely must be an upper limit then you can only buy what is available for that price. Perhaps discontinued models of quite recent models, like the Nissan Navara and Mitsubishi L200 should be down at that price. I think they should be, certainly.

10k would get a later Navara V6 3ltr and no ad blue problems ,,even if you had to plate the chassis ,it would be more reliable than a ford

Personally I’d get it changed if it’s done around 70,000 miles. I certainly bit the bullet. Who knows whether it was worth doing but I would kick myself hard knowing what I do and if the engine was ruined due to my lethargy.
They can also have piston issues but most are just fine to high mileage. All engines and everything mechanical have weak points so it’s not something to get obsessive about.
