For all round efficiency I don’t think you’ll beat 03 flat fans.
Clean out easily by running a fine tooth brush across the outside then banging them down hard on the boom to knock dirt out. Or blow back through them.😗

No, sod that, just leave the 02’s in and do everything at 100 l per hectare , 10 k 3 barg. Simple. 02 flat fan low drifters with removable orifice plate.

What’s folks thoughts on 4 star nozzles? More and more chems are stating 3 star, are we better going 4 star with a bigger pressure range?
Keep water rates up. Lower drift comes from fewer bigger droplets. For good coverage with a more coarse spray, you need more water. Don’t use 4* with a small target eg. fine grass weeds or contact blight products.

Still on Red Flat Fans here and everything at 200l/ha. I looked at the options last year but bought another set of Flat Fans.

Pretty limited for spray days with flat fans, admittedly coverage is good on the right day but not many right days here

Yea 14k is flat calm up here though, in all seriousness though I had flat fans also red ones as it happens and could not believe the difference with drift when I started on guardian airs as I said coverage may not be as good in the right conditions but more useable to us I reckon cheers

This sprayer arrived with guardian airs and after a few weeks took them off 🤷🏻‍♂️. FF give us a much better job.

Yeh we are on guardian airs at the moment. As you say getting a low wind day can be challenging.

Try the Defy 3D’s, much better drift control that GA and I really rated the GA as the best all rounder on coastal areas.

I use 03 04 and 05 guardians and change water rate quite a lot. So often spring herbicides at 150l to get on the crop, I like about 125 for fungicide but will go to 100 if that works to do a good block of fields. Just done my maize pre em at 200 using the 05 nozzles. 4000l tank makes this easy.
Very few trees in this area hardly a hedge for shelter and often breezy.

One block of fields I can see Bournemouth lights at night, must be 30 miles away.

Great nozzle I use them for pre ems and grass weed control but they can be quite drifty .I use Amistar nozzles at 100 litres for fungicide and generally other applications imo their the best options but if you want to go in less than ideal conditions then a ultra low drift nozzle is a useful addition

How long did you’re 3Ds last I had to bin mine after 1500 acre they just wore out
400ac/day each with 2 sprayers and they did the season as far as I’m aware!! Used Potato nozzle for blight and Hypro ESI on liquid N, all other applications with Defy 3D’s. If it wasn’t raining we were spraying, fert spinners would be parked up long before the sprayers would. Water rates from 130-250l/ha depending on crop and target, mainly 180l/ha for fungicides and herbicides on cereals and oilseeds

The amistar nozzle is the original Gaurdian Air, aka, GA - Great Allrounder

I like the BFS ex ray 4 stars. The wide rate coverage is great. 100l/ha at 13kph is 4 star for windy days. Still days I can crank the water rates up to mid 100s and still get 3 star rating and a decent speed.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
