Went out to check a cow , and emptied the rain guage at 1am - 26.5 mm - there was only about 4mm in it on Thursday morning which I left in it as it was raining at the time.

We've now had 47.5 mm in first 7 days of September to add to the 402.5 in total for June/July/Aug .

That's 450 mm in 99 days , or almost 18 inches in 14 weeks and a day.

Dec/Jan/Feb total was 305.5 mm - 97 mm ,or 3.8 inches less than the summer. !!

Spoke to a float driver tonight , who said he was on a beef farm at Strathaven , Lanarkshire this week where they have no silage made at all this year.

I'm beginning to feel that I am going to be drowned out , of a farm on top of a hill.

Until now, we could get by, but theres going to need to be a few dry days now before anything can move in most fields, a lot of cows in here full time now. also know of at least 3 farms with no silage made at all.

Only a quarter of our 1st cut. Cows have been in since mid July. Just sold 90 cows.

Feel sorry for you chaps, what are you going to do with no winter fodder ?

Forecast a day ago was a fairly calm week after Monday. FOrecast today is dire for the next week.

It will be fine as I am overseas with the day job so I am sure it will be fine so I could be cutting my Spring wheat, it will then rain on Friday evening when I return.

Probably a more accurate forecast than the so called experts, actually that weather forecasting stone is prob more accurate

2017 is supposed to be the year when the Met Office's £97m super computer reaches full capacity, providing

"better forecasts"

so said Met Office Chief Exec at the time Rob Varley.

Forecasts for this year have been total turd.

Now at 64.5 mm for first 8 days of September , and BBC forecaster Louise says it's to be windy and wet , next week. This is unbearable.
I've stopped watching the forecast now and watch Louis Lear instead
Our weather here in n Antrim has been terrible since mid July but we've our silage made. We think it only happens to us but you've had it worse.

Good question.
any chance you can get some made now if the weather came better ? or is it to late
wouldn't be that good but better than a snow ball in the winter
after that its either buy in fodder or sell animals I spose
We had it bad in 2012 housing some of cattle in the so called summer but we had made our silage early so were ok
couldn't imagine getting to this time of year having made nothing must be bloody awful

We need all the indian summer we can get in Lancs, according to a friend that records rainfall we have had 5 inches in the last 14 days, bringing the total since July 1st to over 15 inches:banghead::cry::poop:
