I thought they started flying around by the end of April but by June should be quite plentiful .

Young Nuthatch on the house wall today. It had learnt how to cling to the wall, but didn't know what to do next . I was stood about 3 feet away !
Parents are often about for sunflower hearts from the feeders.

You can’t really tell but this is a duck on some eggs in my veg patch. In the pic are two chicks and an egg, they are hatching today.
I check on her every day and she lets me get very close but doesn’t like it if I touch her, she hisses at me.

Poplar hawk moths on a tree trunk.

They had just been released from a moth trap by the moth counters we have and the moths all went straight to that trunk and stuck there.

11 poplar Hawk moths and one of another kind I am told.

Can you see it there was two running around I’ve got a photo of one it’s a baby peewit.

Some from Saturday. I've been told it's not a good year for Barn Owls. Only 1 out of 3 boxes yielded results. One other had had Jackdaws - which was occupied by Barn Owls last year, the other which a young male was placed in having been rescued........ had a Stock dove in. 5 chick's (atm) some 3 weeks behind last year's. Only 3 were just ringable.

We only had two to tag out of 5 eggs and only in one box out of two. 6 and a half weeks old apparently.

They are not the most beautiful babies, are they? But presumably their parents love them! But I think young herons are probably uglier!

Any thoughts on why is been a bad year for them?

I was told it was a result of low numbers of field shrews. Not sure that explains why we had Jackdaws in another box though ?

I was watching the bees on the cow parsley and then saw this creature! Trichius fasciatus known of course as the "bee beetle". Not uncommon but a delight to see such a strange creature. Even it's little head is very bee-like, right down to the hairs. We were loving the little hands when we zoomed in, just the job for hanging onto a flower
