The contractors working on it would be insured, it sounds like the fire may well have come from there work so they or at lest there insurers should be paying .
However i think the News said they had raised 800 million Euros yesterday , seems a hell of a lot of money in a day but with that is they should be able to fix that one up and build another couple more of them as well (y)

whats peoples thoughts on re building , personally i think they should not re create it it but build with top quality craftsmen what the Millennial take on it would be ,maybe a glass roof , possibly supported on timber laminated beams , steel spire etc etc
seems to me that 100's of years ago if an old building burnt or fell down and what we see now was built in its place or added to the existing building but in its day as a replacement that was new , I don't see why we should look at things differently today .
In Paris the louvre has done something similar with the glass pyramid extension , that is in its self quite iconic maybe even more recognizable than the louvre building its self.

What a mean spirited thread

Some folks need to get a life

It's an international architectural icon

One of our own Kings was crowned there

I'd be grateful if a French benefactor or the State made a charitable donation to the UK if Westminster Abbey burnt down

You started a thread about Notre Dame

Some of the contributors to this thread just seem to have a pathological dislike of anything "foreign"

I think diversity around the World should be celebrated . If everywhere was like England it would be very boring

Makes me laugh when I think this an anti French thing when you think how many big farmers have wrung the CAP over the years for a system that was originally designed to support small French farmers originally

I think there's a fair bit of playful digs at the french , we do after all have a marmite relationship with the country .

Norte Dame is an European (or World) treasure, not only French. I would support a symbolic donation, even though our French friends can take care of it all by themselves.

Unless one has a ‘Smallhauzen mentality’ (ref: Alo, Alo) [emoji12]

I agree completely... the materials used in original construction are near ‘unobtanium’, e.g. prime timber logs. Modern take is a much more sensible approach and reminder of the disaster in the XXI century.
On that note, where were ‘health & safety inspectors’ when you needed them? Did all staff wear hi-vis jackets, helmets and goggles? Clearly, majoring in the minor issues!

This thread is an example of why the Brits are so popular around the world.

Being a nation of such poor team players, it's just as well we are going out of Europe.
Bitter Britain.

I would think the UK will take a lead role in its restoration because as an industry conservation of buildings is something the UK is very good at with a large number of traditional craftsmen and women. You need only look at the conservation work done at our Cathedrals and National Trust properties.

Hope freedom of movement is still on the go then, for UK craftsfolk to work in EU! Suppose will get work visas if not.
