Wrag or Protech post knocker?

Looking at either a wrag basic xl or protech p230s. Both with 300kg weights and rock spikes, and pretty much identical in spec. But wrag is over a grand more than protech. What's people's thoughts. Apparently wrag is better built and the wrag supporter I've spoken too says that the protechs have a tenancy to snap the masts. Also wrag rock spike is solid rather than hollow tube. Was leaning towards protech before I was told this. But don't want to save a grand if in 10 years time I'm having to replace it as its knackered. Only doing our own farm fencing plus a few bits for others to help pay for it.

I was just talking to son and wondering if we would be better off using Clipex fencing instead (I just paid £5.80 each for 3 -4" posts), either that or start to use high tensile fencing, so I could double my post spacing.

Don't think you'll knacker a protech in ten years doing your own fencing on farm @SJH @tepapa @ARW
+ all others I can't think of usernames for

Thats what I thought. See loads of protechs around, so people must be happy with them. Only rules out a p200s as used mates older one with 210kg weight and struggled with big strainers on harder ground. I know the newer 200s has 240/50kg weight, but didn't think that would make a huge difference. Same old thing it's alot of money to shell out for something that you might not use that often, but do you spend the extra and get something you know will do the job when you need it to.

Buy the best you can afford, you'll never regret having a better machine but you will regret having a poorer one.

Weight of the knocker and it's ability all comes down to the type of ground you've got, some places are easy to fence so are horrid.

I don't really know but the protech rock spike doesn't feel like hollow tube when you lift it

Had a 250 protech since 2008.... Great bit of kit only thing we've had to renew is the rope. It's racked up alot of work over the years & slightly loose now but nothing to worry about. Just make sure u paint waste oil on the mast everyday when u use it..... Waste oil not grease....... 👍👍

Waste oil rather than grease to avoid a grinding paste?

Have a p200 here, not failed to get anything in yet all be it on the slow side, i'd be looking at a p230 with an auger next if I wanted a tractor mounted, reckon the p300 is a bit heavy for the places I seem to go to.

The wrag is a better knocker in my opinion but people love the protech stuff and the feeling your in the protech club “hard staplers do not apply” kind of talk.
