Some guy that tried to fix my carb haven't succeeded yet, and now my kodiak is still not running.. The man is quite old and has some health issues so I can't push him too hard But finally the weather is getting better so hopefully I can go in the field for surveying within a few weeks.
Problem was that the floating pan was leaking. Found somewhere a used pan but afterwards the engine kept flooding. Went to a bike shop and the man told me it would be better to get a new, complete carb instead of keep on messing around with a 20 years old carb. He contacted yamaha netherlands but a new one was 660 euro's
So I searched the internet and found original Mikuni carbs for 200 euro's approximately. Only problem is that the part numbers are slightly different. The yamaha parts catalogue has a part number 5TE-14101-00 and several mikuni dealers have 5TE-E4101-01-00. Is yamaha using their own numbers for a mikuni carb and is it a 'yamaha licensed' carb and 300% more expensive, or what is going on here?
This is a link to a mikuni dealer/seller. From the pictures everything looks exactly the same.
