Yard concrete.

Just away to concrete a bit of the yard. There will be lorries on it. Thinking 250mm deep of r35 air entrained concrete with a393 mesh at the bottom. Unsure whether to get structural fibres as well. An extra £18 a cube for them. Not wanting to do it again but is it overkill?

250mm is a thick slab ££££
If your base is solid I would have thought 150mm with mesh would be fine. Maybe go to 200 mm if any point is getting lorries regularly turning
As above read up on cureing
When we did our road got a 200 litre drum of cureing chemical & sprayed it on with the knapsack sprayer.
or if practical keep it covered with a sheet, especially in summer

Make sure they dont use a "blend" mix, it basicaly means that instead of cement they put slag ash in and it takes a lot longer to go off.

Hanson did this with me recently, still said C35 on the ticket though!!!

It’s the slab right in front of the grain store so 100 odd grain lorries a year plus the rest.
It’s expensive to do but it’s really expensive if it’s not done 100%.

They did the same with my son in law. It took days to go off properly. Well over a week to harden but it's good now.

They use blend all the time unless you specify otherwise or the particular grade of conc requires otherwise.

RC35 concrete has to meet 45N/mm2 after 28 days, they could mix jelly babies in the mix and as long as it meets that strength it’s still an rc35.

A concrete mix with a blend is easier to work with than a straight op mix.

I was told after not to drive on it for 4 weeks

I’m gearing up to fit a new drive off a road with a concrete road apron into the bell mouth (tarmac tends to rip up in the summer)

Ona zoom today engineer said a 200mm slab well ,aid would be sufficient.

I’d say 250mum is overkill. Slabs can be engineered to be thinner but as strong these days due to adding other bits to them

Hessian is the best to keep it cool just keep it damp
