Zoom

.............. I've not used Zoom before. In fact it took less than two minutes to sort out by following simple instructions I received via email this afternoon.

Thought it deserved a new thread, sorry!

Where did Zoom come from? You never see adverts, they're not part of MS, Apple, Google or Facebook (I don't think) but they seem to have the market cornered and everyone I know uses it.

Every time we've used it there don't ever seem to be problems - probably tempting fate now!

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I've been quite impressed with it. Will be using it a lot more in the future when buying stuff outside the UK. Do my own QA of sorts from my chair,.

It seemed to be through an American server. I had not heard of it until lockdown. The way it was used last night was very similar to a live youtube broadcast but with bookings only. The audience participated by typing questions and our mics and cameras were turned off by the broadcasters. Worked very well indeed I thought

Been using stuff like Zoom, Hangouts and Teams for years pre this virus ........ big wide world outside a tractor cab !

Great to see such systems finally being used as they should through, reducing travel and time spent pointlessly in offices, it was always going to happen but I think we have just fast-forwarded 5 years !

Offices will never be the same, London property will suffer VERY badly as a result

The internet has gone up a couple of gears overnight !

teams is better than zoom and does a lot more than video conference

however that added functionality ads complexity which isn’t for all users !

since lockdown the TFF office has run on teams and hi hi voip phones. It’s worked very well and I think we will probably never return to full time office

Teams is not for those of a tech phobia disposition! but it is much better if your comfortable with tech

google hangouts is actually the most user friendly imo

So you missed my smoke signals. Oh well, you can't be up with all the tech all of the time.

We use Zoom and it does everything we need (we think)

What will Teams (or the others) do that Zoom won't?

its far more project management environment than just video conference whichis juts a part of it, intergrates very well if you use exchange email word, excel. crm. azure, PowerPoint etc

utter overkill for keeping in contact with the in-laws !

I like Teams but only use it for conference calling.

Still not tried Zoom yet!!! We’re using hangout but from a business type email where it can go up to I think 150 people? Maybe even 300! Google meet actually upgraded the grid view formats etc soon into this lockdown which improved it. Can sit in a meeting with mic off and view a presentation or slides etc from the speaker. I even thing you can create a google meet and share the meetings link for others to join via zoom if they don have a gmail account???

For anyone interested in how Zoom worked for the webinar, here it is on YouTube. Like I said it is very like a YouTube live stream.

I also attended a similar event on The Farming Forum this morning. This used a different platform, the name escapes me, but basically the same format except that a list of those on-line was shown and we had the option of switching our cameras and mics on to participate I think. Nobody in the audience did though, apart from someone joining that forgot to turn their mic off for a second or three.

GotoWebinar has been used on TFF for cereals event today and will be again tomorrow

It has the downside of having to register which is a barrier for some, in the future I thing we will use other systems - some of the webinars had as many as 840 online at a time

we ran one a few weeks ago that didn't need registration and the numbers were in the thousands
