How to move a dead horse?

About 30 years ago my father dug a hole for a neighbour's horse with the old Ford 4550 we had at the time. The vet then walked the horse up to the hole, and put it down, rolling it into the excavation as it went down.
Trouble was, the hole wasn't deep enough, and the legs were still poking above ground level. At this point my father walked away from the job, and it was left to me to lift the dead horse out, dig the hole a lot deeper, replace the horse, and cover it up. I was about 13 at the time!
Been there. The secret is to put it on its back beside the hole, remove chain from legs, & roll it in. Feet end up underneath & no sprouty legs to saw off. Come to think of it, a tree shear could have saved some hassle too.

Years ago did a favour for dear old lady who lived in large house locally and sorted out burial of Buster, her aged donkey who had brayed his last bray.

Sadly she died a few months later, house was put on the market and bought by a London couple as a weekend home and one of the first things they did was to set about putting in a swimming pool - quess where!

A local knackerman at home (now gone) was said to have had the same trouble when he buried one of his horses (bought for fattening) in his own field. Apparently a chainsaw fetches the protruding legs off just fine.:D

Leave them protruding and you've got plenty of boot scrapers :ROFLMAO:

Reminds me of a story, on trucknet I think. about a driver having to hacksaw the legs of a dead donkey on the top of a load, because it was setting of the over height sensor at Dartford tunnel

There was a tale about an old farmer buried his dead donkey upside down with its legs sticking up and grew runner beans up the legs - just recycling really I suppose :ROFLMAO:

I was just thinking about this tale as I was catching up, it came from an author of countryside/farming books by the name of Fred Archer. All of his books were based around Bredon Hill not far from Evesham (y)
