How can the NFU which claim to be the voice of English and Welsh Farming, back such proposals?

The NFU need to be directly accountable to their members rather than a closed shop/cozy club- they are increasingly out of touch with the people who pay their subscriptions. Why are they so set against democracy? Their involvement in the RT farrago is a classic example of a major conflict of interest where they are acting against a large number of their members/potential members interests.
I have refused to join RT and resigned from the NFU in protest at their stance on WLA and RT. Others should do the same where they can.

My pig keeping neighbour said much the same 2-3 weeks ago. He is a tad skitty about it, unsurprisingly!

I had a disagreement with someone very senior in RT the other day, who thought it okay for the general public from who knows where to drive immediately adjacent to my pigs to get access to a large public event.
Some of those visitors would have been other pig farmers worried about what they might pick up from me.

The terrifying thing about ASF is that it takes up to 40 days from infection to spotting a problem. In those 40 days the disease could spread everywhere. It could already be here now, undetected.

Maybe there is more to this than we are being informed. As has already been mentioned, random unannounced visits are part of the new risk based approach, and are when a member is on the radar for not conforming.

So, there are two sides to this, and in addition, it may be worthwhile re-reading what you agreed to when joining the scheme.

RT is/has been lacking credibility, this is partially due to the haphazard way some inspectors/inspections have taken place, there is a tightening-up going on, and hopefully from this, we all benefit.

If you don't want to be a member of RT, then terminate your membership,if one of your buyers insists you are, then conform, or find another way of selling your produce.

just going to have to put up with it then and it will only get worse things like this always do
I am not a member but they will get me blackmailed in to it in the end, whole life assurance will see to that when it comes in, Batters is a big fan of that as well, all RT will do for me is cost me money and time with no gain whatsoever over the status quo

Whole life assurance, will be in very very soon! The inspector on my non compliance form also wrote that I "should only be buying assured store cattle and lambs", when I pointed out I was keeping within their rules for days on farm, his response was "not for long," and wouldn't remove the comment.[/QUOTE]

Easier said than done. Only 2 mills in South Wales, and they will only take assured grain.
Tried selling 12 ton surplus last winter farm to farm, and after 5 months of Facebook palaver grief, I've still got ........11 ton left...:ROFLMAO:

I wish we could stop this " If you don't like it, do something else " nonsense. It really doesn't help.

Sadly, QA schemes have rules, if you don't like them, then don't join them, it is that simple.

Yes you're right, but if he can't shift the 11 tons he had left over, how will he get on trying to shift all of it unassured?

... Unless everyone drops out and they have no choice but to buy it.

I've never been assured, feck that.

Neither have I................

The key to the door is to have a QA scheme that buyers, processors and the public have confidence in. If we can achieve this, then we will get universal promotion, and added value.
