Red tractor power of entry

Looks like you need to accept the costs of RT as a marketing expense, get out there and find a way of selling it without FA, or chose to diversify away from it.

When was the last time you did a proper Cost:Benefit Analysis of membership?

it is VERY bad value marketing

I hate that word .................... "accept" here is a better one ................ "question" Farmings biggest problem

Trouble is the big buyers wouldn’t even take stock unless you were farm assured...I’ve been FA about 18 years, back then it was a doddle....now there’s more and more hoop jumping for less reward
did you expect it to be any different and yes they would take stock if it was non fa if there was no fa stock at all what do you think they would do say oh dear and sit there till they went bust

I can remember the NACB (National Association of Catering Butchers) inspection regime was something like;
Annual audit - unless you scored a number of "minor" infringements then it was.....
Bi-annual audit - unless you scored any "major" infringements then it was...
Notice of unannounced inspection(s).... they turned up and checked in like any other plant visitor/rep then done their stuff.

And you paid for the privilege, the benefit was that you could attract a premium for your product from some restaurants.

Same as any scheme I guess, weigh up the pro`s and con`s and see if its worth it.

I fully expect to be blackmailed in due Corse
Dunno how old you are but I suspect similar to me.
Dunno what kids you’ve got but IIRC the same as me.
Dunno what property/ investments you’ve got , maybe totally different....................,But, I often think when I’ve had enough of it all I’ll just pack up and live on what I’ve got. I’m not ready to do that just yet but there’s a certain inevitability about it but I’m sure I’ll miss the every day farm work, just not the crap that goes with it.

Unfortunately it’s just a fact of modern life, I have friends in other jobs who feel much the same, they like the nuts and bolts of their job but are fed up of the crap that goes with it and are looking forward to the day they can jack it in.

Surely this is utter rubbish ?

Not even the police can force entry without warrant

As far as I’m aware only customs can without warrant ?
Actually the environment agency staff can so long as they are investigating an urgent cause of flooding or pollution. Otherwise they need permission. My warrant card even allowed me to enter locked domestic property if necessary during flooding so long add I made it secure afterwards.

I was at a meeting with our milk processor last night and the chat came around about Red Tractor, they said that 2 hours notice was given before an on the spot inspection so that someone could be present.

Thinking about it, it’s only really wheat I need assurance for, as feed barley can be sold farm to farm easy enough around here.
Other crops like maize, grass and pot lets have never asked for assurance.

Having seen your pictures on TAW thread I'd guess that you easily pass inspection anyway?
Is there anything you'd do different if not assured? other than paperwork perhaps.
So the only cost is the fee the scheme charges?
Which I suppose could be thousands, which would destroy my argument:unsure:

Easier said than done. Only 2 mills in South Wales, and they will only take assured grain.
Tried selling 12 ton surplus last winter farm to farm, and after 5 months of Facebook palaver grief, I've still got ........11 ton left...:ROFLMAO:

I wish we could stop this " If you don't like it, do something else " nonsense. It really doesn't help.

How much would RT actually cost you though? I don't think you have stock? so just crops and if I remember right you use a contractor for spraying? So you just need a copy of there paperwork.
Would it be that hard to pass the rest? and it would give you more options when selling.
