Contractor dumps 40ft header

Then you use a digger and a chainsaw, love big gateways, don't need to fold up drill or rolls neither. In fact there was one farming family down here who went for 24m gateways, just plant right through, genius!!! Only problem is when your livestock neighbours stock go for a wander..........

Can’t afford to waste ground (y) bit of a nuisance if you ever decide to go back into stock though. I’m wondering if I’m guessing the right farming family with 24m gaps. Ford and NH advocates?

40ft is just stupid
Unless on prairie land.
The point is that the man has gone back to two less sphisticated 25ft machines to INCREASE his output and cut costs
Is it that stupid? I see plenty working in the Scottish Borders and they seem to work pretty well even on the undulating land here. Pretty sure that whatever size combine you have is clearly the best though

Yes. Lots of grass seed, peas and an organic client.
“10ft header is best for grass seed as the wobble box arms break if you go any wider”
Is what I’ve heard before.... bullsh|t!!

They don’t swath the grass and then pick up with a draper once it’s dried out then?

Presumably the seed losses are high with swathing. They’ve been using a stripper header for years before getting the MacDons

I think they still stripped all the grass this year.
I would like to see a 40ft swath of hay dropped on the ground and how much work was needed to deal with it, other than pushing into a heap:cool:

Next time you are down I will show you Cornish hedges, narrow lanes, Granite gateposts and sloping ground. Takes a bit more than a chainsaw to solve the problem. :p

This is true, wouldn’t want to get into some of Martin and Bridget’s gateways with our combine! Perhaps I generalised too much, hear the argument in these parts though.

I’ve never heard of a 40’ header on a straw walker combine - you’d never get the swath under the baler tractor for a start. What width is yours?

I know some of the barley that was cut green was spread 6 times until it was dry to bale. You can split a Class lexion hybrid swath, pretty sure you can't on a NH CR. that makes quite a difference at 40ft.
My 24ft swaths of grass took a week last year to dry out. I didn't bother this year, chopped the 2nd years and pushed the first years. I will chop the lot next year.
