Ukraine / Russia.Makes you wonder where these stolen units end up for resale And who buys them. I’d imagine they’ll be shipped out of the country. Most gps systems here are dealer sold and installed. Some trading of screens but usually go with tractor combine or sprayer when sold.
The airtag will notify any apple device nearby of its presence and even alert the thief by playing a tune to reveal its location. It is not designed as anti theft unfortunately.Ukraine / Russia.
John Deere arnt going to do anything about it. Put an Apple air tag in it. At least you will be able to watch it travel across Europe.
AirTag
Attach AirTag to everyday items, like your keys or a backpack, to easily keep track of them in the Find My app.www.apple.com
Local JD dealer saying there is an issue getting replacements due to lack of microchips worldwide. 6 months or more for a replacement if your goes missing.
With all the encryption technology out there now I’m sure the manufacturers could do a lot more to make units secure if they really wanted to - but its better for them financially to keep selling new units
New JD 6000 domes are pin protected and state that on the outside. Whether that's permanent or could be reprogrammed by someone in Eastern Europe I'm not sure. We have also been told there's a long delay on replacement domes if we do get any nicked. You’d think manufacturers would write a software version that requires a 6 digit code on startup, or it bricks the device.
Pair it with a nice little holographic sticker to put on the front of the box so the thieves can spot that it’s worthless, and make sure the device can’t be reprogrammed by a bent technician at an Eastern European dealership and the jobs a good ‘un.
You just need to make sure you use a memorable code, something like your wedding anniversary…
Just spoke to my "relation" he says it is a frustration for them, they can inform plod, of a stolen one being used and where but there is very little interest that wayI do know a “ close relation” who works in the gaming industry, for one of the major players, can identify where every one of their game boxes is in the world at any time and also which game is being played. Makes you wonder why something similar cannot be done for these gizmos
