Organic spuds are £550 around here without water, veg has got to be up there with spuds?£400 / acre.
Yeah I know what you mean. I’ve got 20 acres in potatoes which are mine. Then 25 acres of veg rented out at £300. The organic will be going to the same person. They rent the land from me and supply me with veg at cost for my farm shops.I used to rent out about 30 acres a year for veg, normally parsnips.

Whilst the headline numbers are “impressive “ the ongoing costs of getting ground back in heart are not.
Will it be organic root crops or hand harvested veg?Yeah I know what you mean. I’ve got 20 acres in potatoes which are mine. Then 25 acres of veg rented out at £300. The organic will be going to the same person. They rent the land from me and supply me with veg at cost for my farm shops.
I guess it depends on how long term you want the relationship to be. It’s easy to look at yield values but they are expensive crops to grow and high risk. We often spend £1000/acre on plants, may get less than 60% to harvest and can spend £2000/acre on labour to harvest them, if you can get the staff. There are also the growing and weeding costs.Hand harvested veg
Is the land registered organic?Yeah I know what you mean. I’ve got 20 acres in potatoes which are mine. Then 25 acres of veg rented out at £300. The organic will be going to the same person. They rent the land from me and supply me with veg at cost for my farm shops.
