I’ve a small part of a field not going into spuds this year but will be next, what could I sow as a cover. Not worth barley as not enough to spray. Only problem it’s full of Charlock so limited what I can put in that I can spray

Thought about that but could it be sprayed, Charlock comes up like a carpet, must be some seed burden as been like it for years and over the hedge none

Use the time to flush the charlock out. Let it grow just enough to make it worthwhile hooking a cultivator on then move the soil and go again. Charlock seed will last decades in the soil so it’s a great chance to lower the seed bank.

Timothy grass seed? Can spray charlock out very nicely. Failing that, red clover?

The charlock would smother the turnips and same family to spray, had thought of that to put sheep on

Italian ryegrass as a cheaper quick cover/fodder crop and you can spray any weeds out.

Probably get a couple of cuts off it I would think.
Unless you don’t need the fodder.

Cotswold grass seeds
Wild flower mixes without Red Campion and No grass seed in a mix .
