No swallows yet but heard the curlews every morning for the last week
Seen quite a few oyster catchers, but I suppose its hardly surprising to see so many wetland birds on fields this year.

I'll pop down to the local lake later, thats where the swallows seem to stop in there hundreds when they first arrive before heading off further north.
It looks like an 18-30 holiday when you see so many of them together.

For some reason our swallows, which nest in one of our stabl, always arrive late. Perhaps their winter haunt is further south in Africa.
Just had the same conversation with the missus. Over a 5 mile radius around here you can reckon on the order where they reappear.
Conclusion was the ones from this end of the lane must go to a different part of Africa than the ones the other end of the lane which is less than a mile.

Hope they hold off until this shite weather blows through, otherwise I will have to take the glass out of the Workshop window to let them back in!

Bloody windy and miserable here and no sign of any bird let alone a swallow - still waiting for an explanation how they get North, West and East of here without even being seen here... :(

Storm gale, thick mizzle fog, really cold, feeling thoroughly ****** off .... and then I stood in yard getting soaked and cold with big stupid grin as I watched our 1st 2024 pair of Swallows checking out the facilities. I felt really sorry for them.
