No , very much up to me how many and how often I take a batch . I want to see what a calf looks like first , as the first buy back weight is 100 kg . How long would that take to reach ?
The company now have a contract with Aldi or Lidl, so are actively looking for folk to join the party !

Anyone rearing calves for warrendale wagyu?
If so how do you find it?

We‘re firing them out of our cows … but Genus seem unable to find a rearer to take them off our hands. Got a range of them from pures from ETs and xbreds and if various ages from new born to 15 months or so

Oh ok sorry , I thought you weren’t in any contact and just used Waygu as easy calving . Approx what age would they be before they get to 100 kg ? Ta

Ours are Jersey crosses. Birth weight is similar to a pure jersey at an average 25-30kg so double plus a bit at weaning at 8 weeks - say 65-70kg but will then slow growth once off milk. Hit 100kg at 14 weeks, maybe a bit less.
They are nothing to look at tbh

Am I right in thinking they pay £2.20 per kg?
So if it was 30kg at birth and you rear it to 100kg then You get £154...
That's pretty tight if your using milk powder!

No, its better than that but shifting them on is not straightforward as it should be and there is a 30 day lag at least before payment

Interesting....
I got a few 9 month old ones off them to see what they like and how grow.

Plan was get at 6 months old in April thrn move on again October.
But if they can not always move them on straight away, not sure now...
If you dont mind me asking, what do you pay for them at 9 months old?

I have a few Wagyus out of pedigree Blonde heifers. I have no interest in keeping once weaned. The schemes over here are for dairy bread Wagyus only. I will happily just punt through the local weanling ring as they will weigh ok after a summer with milk and grass.

I could put you in touch with someone who would buy them privately and given they are a niche I think you could command a better price than selling them in a ring.
