Hi guys,
Im from Germany for the first excuse my english its not the best one. My question is, i have a massey ferguson 185 with an 8/2 gear. the end speed is 25kmh , how can i make them faster? to 30-40 kmh
Please help me thanks

Years ago I used to drive a 188 MP. Frequently it would loose hydraulics, ipto and Hi Multipower. If you happened to be going downhill at the time with no engine braking, it was absolutely terrifying! Happily the PAS and brakes still worked.... Believe you me 25 kph is fast enough for these ancient tractors!

I suppose you need to keep up with the rest of the silage team. But will a 185 fit in with the team anyway ?
It will probably catch up every time the modern shite breaks down...... :ROFLMAO:

The difference between 25 and 30kph means only 10km difference travelled in two hours, or about 20 minutes extra time for the slower tractor. The steering of 100 series tractors, once well used, is seldom good enough for faster speeds and only the two rear brakes makes for very long stopping distance if even slightly wet or greasy on the road.
Leave well alone or if travelling very long distance occasionally, carry on the back of a truck. In any case, a higher top speed will really sap the performance on road of such tractors and raise the speed of second gear high and reverse [particularly] to be almost unusable without slipping the clutch, while reverse low ratio would still be painfully slow.

However, having said that, many MF185 were sold with 16.9/14-30 wheels and tyres which gave 25kph top speed. Swapping the wheels and fitting 13.6/12-38 or 16.9/14-34 would raise the speed sensibly to between 28 and 30kph.

my 185 didnt have multipower (normal 8/2 transmission) and has 38 tires, some people think 25kmh is enough ( i kmow that ) but didnt know that i need more speed on the road, because i travel from watering point to point with my 185 and this must happen in time. my 185 didnt work with equipments on the field, only for road and PTO. i didnt want an turbo and i habe 38 tires i will more speed over the transmission with an extra gear or some like that ? with more theet or some ? or from 188 ? please answere only for my question and not like „25kmh ist enough“ „this old tractors or… “ thanks

I got an extra 5 mph on a MF690 when we had to put 18.4x 38s from another tractor on it when we broke the rims on the original 13.6 x 38s. I’m not sure how we shoehorned them under the mudguards. I reckon 16.9x 38s would be a good fit for a MF 185. We had a 165 multi power which would travel at 22-23mph but stopping it was a different matter.

You asked a question but don’t get to dictate what kind of answers you get. If time and speed is so critical, get a tractor designed and built for the legal speed limit for your roads. Most tractor less than 30 years of age with 4wd and 4 wheel braking will have 40kph transmissions, certainly in the UK. Not all though, because many brands had an option of 30kph transmissions and the mix of each may vary according to country.

What you want and what you get are not necessarily compatible.

Poor MF100 isn’t getting much help. But it’s beyond me but there’s an MF550 with 3 gear-levers in Dumfriesshire can do over 40 mph.I’ve seen the tractor 12 speed Synchro.mind nobody said it was safe
That’s nearly 65kph. Ridiculous and with only drum brakes that are hardly up to the job of stopping a 25kph MF35. I seriously doubt whether that tractor at that speed would even be drivable.
