Post-emergence spray and cold weather

Need to get a field of wheat treated with some post-em chemical (late pre-em).

The weather is set to cool off a lot from tonight for at least a week. I would happily have treated it earlier in the week while warmer but it was too wet to travel. Am I likely to cause significant crop damage doing it now?

Is the crop beyond single leaf stage and not waterlogged. If so I would do it depending on chemical type and dose provided there is l ikely to be a BG control benefit.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, crop is beyond single leaf stage - it was planted on 11th October. The main field and the crop itself is not waterlogged and the land has dried a lot enough to carry the sprayer - just a few wet spots here and there where the crop has died out in any event.

Spoke to the agronomist earlier and he thought it was too late for the chemical I had planned but suggested changing chemical to Luximum. A quick panicked shopping trip and we're now ready to go.

Same predicament here, been too wet, so going to put the pre-em on post as soon as I think the mess I make will be worth it.

Just got in from finishing it up.

Almost all direct drilled land, and travelled really well making very little mark most of the time. Even tried my luck with a small area of ploughed ground that went surprisingly well.

Hopefully might be able to use the original chemical up as pre-em on some of the rest of the ploughed ground next week.

As long as you don't get stuck the mess is always worth it. It's amazing how much it repairs over the winter with frosts and the tramlines will look better by the spring.

When spring arrives I'd always rather be looking at a messy tramline every 24m than I would a whole field carpeted in blackgrass that no chemistry has a hope of controlling.

Agreed Steevo,

Little option waiting until spring on our land as resistance prevalent to post emergence chemistry. Within reason I would salvage what you can instead of shutting gate.

Wheat price may lift after Christmas given the Autumn???

I have the same problem missed pre ems and our ground has only just dried up enough to travel but we have had a frost last night of -3.

Do I risk spraying later today when the frost burns off or would you say that frost wil cause damage if I sprayed today? tonight is not forecasted a frost
