What made them so good ?
Ultimate traction in a civilised size tractor that was very comfortable in its time. Sadly, it utilised existing axles etc that weren’t really anything special, and belt driven dual pumps that gave issues. The engine mounts would flex causing problems with alignment to the clutch etc. But according to someone who got off a Doe onto one, it was fantastic. The 1250 ironed out a lot of issues, but was eclipsed by the 4wd 2000 series.

When you look at it, up until the release of the 2000 series, MF had no MFWD in the 1005 series.

Having duals on the 1005's gave them plenty of traction but in the UK I'd say they weren't a feasible option so the 1200 would have been a superior tillage tractor compared to these 2wds.

Would love to own one. There are a few still floating around in OZ.

Guess it was a 6354 engine in a 1200.?
Yes it was.
One of the best things we ever did with our’s was to put it on a conventional baler with a flat 8 accumulator behind it.
You could see right over the top of the baler to see what was going on in the accumulator.
The only slight problem was the 1,000 rpm PTO, which meant running the engine at rather low rpm’s itself.
