We have been checking through tags on store cattle and found that we have a passport for a beast that isnt on farm and we have a beast on the farm that we dont have a passport for, both the beast and the passport are born just a few calves apart and from the same farm, i can only presume that there was a mix up that group of calves which we didnt pick up on at the time, whats the best course of action without getting in big trouble? its now 21 months old and due to be sold as a forward store soon

thanks

Out of interest. Do you have the animal registered with you, or the passport?

Someone with no regard for the law, if they couldn't get the correct passport off the dairy farm, would get the passport sex changed and get some replacement tags.

Try and find out who has the male, they might have your passport ?
This would be my first call . If the op gets tags for the beast to match the pp and then its movement when sold triggers an error because the person with the other beast hasnt done the same the op is then suddenly guilty of dishonesty. Best ring bcms and be honest if you cannot find the correct pp imo.

This happened to us buying heifers from Ireland once. Our half load was shared with someone else and when they were put in lairage at the dock two swapped pens! We didn't find out until months later. I think (it's a while ago!) we contacted the haulier and tracked down the other farm. Then we both contacted bcms and sorted out the problem correctly. There were no bad conquences. Since then we ALWAYS double check passports match animals!
