There's no sanity to the prices being paid!!
What do all these folk do for a living that they can afford such prices on a hobby for sprog.
It's become a country of VERY poor or VERY wealthy.
Buggering off abroad somewhere is looking more and more appealing
But if the price of an acre is rising or staying steady it works out a lot cheaper than renting it for a 150 quid a month, when little Lucy gets bored of her four legged stallion and is keener on two legged ones daddy can sell the field for the same if not more .
Compared to buying a flash car etc it doesn't lose money and adding £40,000 to a mortgage is pretty easy

If someone pays 2 million for their house would you think 180 k is to much for them to pay for a paddock next door though
You won't get much of a property in East Sussex for less that 1 million ,just a house

I could live in France, little house someplace, it would suit me down to the ground. Rural France always felt a lot more like old school Britain to me.
I would in all honesty loose a limb in preference to being forced to return to the UK.

To keep this on topic the last small block I bought was 0.9 hectares so just over 2 acres. I paid 2000 euros. Its seller was an old boy in residential care I used to hunt wild boar with when I moved over he told me I was an absolute gentleman for paying a proper price a hectare for such a small block.

Best way to live in France is on the canal network. If you like a place then you can stay there but if you are mobile then ‘the grass-is-greener’ is a great mind-set and you move South for the winter.

I know an irish chap who runs a boat up and down the canal network all summer long but spends a couple of months each winter in a tiny cottage in a local village. Even in France the winter is no time to be on a boat apparently.

They often drain the pounds for weeks/months for winter maintenance so you could be stuck on the lean for some time. Not forgetting that there is no Gulf Stream to add a little warmth to the atmosphere.
And have you seen the size of French log stacks 😮
That’s why one moves South into the Camargue area if you haven’t a tiny cottage.
It is a lovely lifestyle though.
4.7mx23m is a good size. A full size is 5.05m x 39m but over 25m insurance requires special tickets, although there is still a living to be made running a full sized vessel, which is another ball game altogether.

reckon you should have said when little lucy gets bored of her 4 legged gelding and becomes keener on a two legged stallion , running a livery yard is an eye opener to modern society .

I'm going to jack it in, too. The UK has become stagnant and there huge divide between rich and poor just makes me sad to be here in truth.

Not selling, but we have a really rocky, rubbishy corner of a field joining someone's garden, about half an acre with bracken growing around the edges. He offered £750 a year to let their horse graze it and I said yes before he'd finished the sentence

A lot of folk can stick 50 or 100 k onto their mortgage, it's affordable and they are not earning a farmer's wage either.
