Is there a way to re-number spanners?

I like the colour coding concept.
In the past one could dismantle a Frod with two spanner sizes; 1/2” & 9/16”. So these were just more shiny.
Today anodised coloured is a great way as you simply have one colour for all your 16mm sockets & spanners as an example.
So perhaps nail varnish would work?

An engraving tool is another way but probably not cheap.

My workshop spanners live in order on de headed nail hooks above the work-bench. Similar the sockets.

Dremel might do it. But I agree it's annoying. I used to be able to read mine if held at the correct angle in sunlight but even that doesn't work any more. I now have a vernier calipre hanging on a nail in the workshop.

Didn’t read your original post properly. If you just want to write on the spanner, there are paints that will apparently do it. Google “metal marking paints”.

The chap who welded up my sheep handler marked it up with some sort of marker pen, and those marks are still clear as after a couple of years, so pens suitable must exist.

I go common sizes in one section of tool box, everything else in another. I'm no mechanic, but even I can tell the difference between a 13mm and a 19mm!! 😇
