Thinking I'd like to reseed some permanent pasture with Sam3 herbal ley, but assume that I will need an EIA, was arable until 2002 when it went into arable reversion
My plan going forward is to use a 3yr cropping rotation of Winter wheat with companion, winter barley with companion, NUM3 or AHL1 as break crop.
Volunteer beans in the wheats have shown to have a good effect so I’ll stick with that but what should I use with the barley, do I need to consider...
How's everyone getting on keeping sheep and cattle outside. Pretty biblical round here. Thinking will have to house the multiples for a month to give us half a chance of getting through to spring.

Data from Europe has revealed climatic changes could be affecting crop growth and limiting oilseed rape yields, leaving experts debating whether growers should stick or twist when it comes to drilling dates. CPM finds out more…

Looking at spring beans as a break option for some failed OSR this coming spring. Has anyone experience growing? Heavy land. Understand a fairly low input break crop and have a market for them local. Toying between that and a kings soil structure mix saw good results five years ago the...
Still considering the "sow after winter barley" approach for the ahl2.
Would replace a break crop.
All mixes contain a cereal, - spring barley or spring wheat.
Anybody worried about not getting a clean cereal break with this approach. Or is Feb to September a long enough break?

We plant cover crops in autumn for grazing store lambs on normally stubble turnips/forage rape. This year we planted grass seeds. Grass was planted mid August came extremely well currently have lambs on if we where to plough up end of February for spring barley (so roughly 6 months) would it be...
Looking for people’s thoughts on a reasonable price for Standing Maize.
We grow maize for a couple of farms as it is a useful break for our arable rotation, the blocks vary from roughly 25 to 75 acres, the customers supply a varying amount of cattle FYM, not enough to see the crop through so...
A potential anaerobic digester just up the road from me had its Planning Committee meeting yesterday. They had already approached me to grow crops for them & take digestate back. I would prefer a break crop if possible. The farm has a significant blackgrass burden. Mostly brashy soils prone to...

A new early maturing maize variety is showing promise for growers looking to offset the challenges of inclement weather.

The budget for SFI is the same as when SPS first started. It was about £100/ acre then, which would be worth about £55/ acre now. So if everybody that claimed BPS, claimed SFI on the same area as before, and on similar value options, that is what we would all get paid. This would probably not...
If I establish a legume fallow in springtime, realistically early April when things start warming up, will it flower before that summer to achieve the aims of the standard and then I can follow it with September drilled wheat? I’m considering using it rotationally as a break crop but I want to...
