Morning all! With an SFI start date of Jan 1st, do my declared IPM4 insecticide-free parcels actually now fall over 2 cropping years i.e. I am now unable to apply insecticide on that parcel for the 12 months? Or does it only apply to the crop in the ground on the agreement start / anniversary...
I was just at the point of applying for SFI with the hope of a 1st March 24 start date. I had applied for IPM4 on parcels which would not receive an insecticide between 1st March 2024 and 1st March 2025. However having seen the webinar from Friday it would appear my insecticide free year should...

we havnt had a good ploughing vrs DD dust up for awhile :sneaky:it all seems dominated by the politics of rt nfu et al
Does anyone have a rough idea what the cost of growing broccoli / ha or acre? what sort of spraying regime would usually occur? I'm assuming pre em - post em herbicide and regular insecticide / fungicide sprays at a higher water rate? what sort of fertilizer rate would be standard ?
Thanks in...
Finding SFI slightly confusing in terms of its scope and requirements especially for a predominantly grassland dairy farm which is geared towards production. 65 acres, two fields of pp approx 15 acres total, the rest temporary grass in roughly 5ac blocks reseeded on 6-7 year rotation, one 5ac...
Brighton Council, that bastion of the Green movement and all things trendy thought it would be a good idea that they should ban the use of glyphosate on the city streets to help the environment.
Roll on four years and having tried all the green alternatives the place is a jungle and they have...
so sfi is here and it seems there are several threads where posters are asking about the possibilities of combining options/crops to leverage more money
'whats stopping me?'
'ahl2....wild bird food'....after winter wheat
'sam3 and num3'....claim both in same first year
any others?......good...
AHL2 new rate £853/ha
DD option £75/ha
Plant a mix of 6 seeds but with spring wheat in it.
AHL2 rules state you can use fertiliser to make it grow and herbicides to control weeds.
Direct drill in March. Apply 150kg N and a pre-em.
Run the combine through it in August just taking the heads...
Hi
We only have a small farm that until now the land 40 hectares was rented out to a local dairy farm for about £200/acre, it is all currently down in short term grass leys and they were claiming all the BPS.
Is there any SFI options that would be better than this? I am waiting for a call back...
After a meeting with an advisor it reads as though you could establish AHL2 winter bird feed after harvest, it then has to be in place for the winter months, nov, dec, jan and feb. After this could you then follow with a spring crop? If you were to do this and add the no insecticide payment you...
