I was always told that February nitrogen flattens crops.
RB209 recommends nothing until the start of stem extension, and not before early April, unless it has low tiller numbers.
Yet everybody else seems to start chucking it on now and their crops look strong and green where as mine look crap...

The Potash Development Association (PDA) is confirming that many farmers did not get fertiliser spread last autumn, due to the heavy rain at the time and the severe deterioration in ground conditions.
However, recent dry weather and good field...
Hey folks - had some soil results and blood results come back for sheep.
Good news - blood tests all very good. Iodine was an issue but flexidine injection has definitely fixed that. Mayo 4in1 bolus is covering everything else well.
Soil results show low zinc, sodium and iodine.
A few...

Co. Down cereal grower Allan Chambers will not be applying bagged phosphate (P) and potash (K) to his winter cereal crops in 2023.
“It’s the cost for one thing,” he told Agriland. “P and K remain extremely expensive. But the decision taken can also be...
I have a 5ac field of (poor) maincrop turnips that I have just taken up the last break fence, which is destined for another root crop to be planted in June/July (a Glastir option). As it's been so dry recently, the surface is in great order and could go straight in to direct drill.
Am I insane...

Making sure crops get ‘just enough’ of the right nutrients at the right time so that they have every chance of living up to their potential requires some detective work. CPM takes a forensic look at some of the tools available to help...
Can anybody tell me what to do about a soil analysis that shows a normal pH, v high phosphorous, normal potassium and v high magnesium?
That's all the info it gave me. The pH is actually quite variable across the field (5 acres), but averages 6. There are lots of buttercups in patches.
I use it...

I’m sure it’s been asked a thousand times !

Someone with knowledge of such things. I wonder if there is an explanation to how wood burners behave when you have removed all of their ash bed?
On a basic glance you would think- no ash means better airflow to the fuel in general, but if you remove the ash bed from a fire, how come it...
If we use fertilizer like urea, calcium ammonium nitrate or ammonium sulfate; in how many days can the plant start to use it or start to absorb it with it's roots? Are the any researches about it?

On land needing potash planning on using potash plus .... however some land has had fiberphose so just need sulphur.... heavy land hybrid rye I may skip sulphur altogether...
Been offered sewerage pellets delivered and spread for a fiver per tonne
Good idea or no?
Seems a cheap source of potassium and a smidge of nitrogen, but what other worries does it come with spreading it onto grassland?
Been looking at this for growing hay for the horse market, Anyone any experience of it, or is it all hype to sell a useless product? If it does do what it says on the tin, it would be well worth a try.
Are there any rules or regs against this? I have several annoying neighbours bordering onto a 55ac field, Parish Council types that are petty to the extreme, they currently have a nice view over said field and beyond, I have a Cotswold stone wall currently but would like to plant some decent...
