Trial data suggests a short gap between spray off and drilling can leave a green bridge for aphids to survive and spread barley yellow dwarf virus (BYDV) to emerging crops.
The trials, conducted by Bayer, show lower infection rates from a nine-day gap...
What would a suggested seed rate be, normally 100kg wheat per acre
So 10/15kgbeans? And drop wheat or not?
Plan is to spray beans out in spring and combine wheat.
Pre em suggestions?
Normal wheat pre em is my suggestion as if I plough beans down pre em be weaker by time they are through?
Morning
Presumably most are still planning on planting wheat in the next month or so.
With current prices and profitability what’s everyone’s thoughts on pre em choices and rates ?
cheers
Any advice would be welcome on this. I have 80ha of heavy, flinty, hilly land going into winter wheat that currently looks like this:
It's chest/ head high, completely alive with insects, and is mainly spring linseed, buckwheat, sunflowers, phacelia, and a bit of clover and vetch.
I don't...
I hope an arable farmer can please give me a clue about this problem before I speak to Luke Cropwalker. Ploughed out grass in spring. It was a great job, and the herbicide seemed to work. Barley looked good.
Suddenly after the summer went sour and it rained so much, all the grass suddenly...
Any disadvantages or risks to growing potatoes after Sugar beet on well bodied black land? Not had potatoes for 7 years previously , low PCN count . Potato varieties will be Agria and Maris Piper
Thanks
As far as I understand the rules for the above. I am entitled to spin some beans into my winter barley at drilling, leave them in until the spring, and claim for the £129/hectare.
Has anyone clarified this with the higher powers by any chance? It seems like a no brainer
Nearly all cont wheat here , the last field to cut always has the straw chopped
It's incredibly consistent , not record breaking but very reliable
May start chopping more often ,
Couple of questions for you corn boys.
Got a bin we reckon holds 85 t barley.
Wheat in this year, what weight of wheat will it hold.
New enthusiast agronomist this year. Costs gone up. Trying to work out how much is inflation & how much extra product
What do you reckon the % increase in...
Any ideas what might survive a pre em on wheat?
OSR volunteers may suffice on some but what else?
Is there anything or do we have to risk missing the pre em?

There’s no disguising the fact that grassweed control isn’t as good as it should be in some fields this summer. CPM attends a BASF briefing to hear why it’s been a difficult season and the lessons that can be drawn from it.

Is it possible to buy "ready-made" bout and pre-emergence markers for a simple 3 m trailed drill (Aitchison Seedmatic)? Any ideas / workshop projects / recommendations? Need to mark tramlines as there is no tramline shutoff on the drill and sprayer man wants pre emergence markers. Thanks in advance
So folks.
Who's done it?
Who's making it work?
What seed rates?
What management?
What crops?
Outputs? (It was mentioned that it's 1.3 times the monocropping option, but was that just oat or both added up because a few beans in an oat trailer would add a lot of weight due simply to them being so...
NRoSO have changed the rule about collecting points.
You now have to collect 10 every year, not 30 over 3 and you will not be allowed to roll spare points over to the next year.
Yet another "straw on the camels back" of rules and regs. that have to be remembered, not just getting the points, but...
