2nd cut coming off next week.
With the dry conditions, am I better to dribble bar or splash plate the slurry on? About 1 tanker/acre.
Very dry here with typically very little rain in June/July. Reasonably thick stuff.
Plan will be to graze aftermaths about 5 to 6 weeks after cutting.
TIA

Looking at trialing shoes and dribble bars, but liking the look of trailing shoe. Ideally need something that can be mounted to tanker, or used on tractor as umbilical system. Used on grass land only. What would be the best brand to go for? Anybody have experiences with different brands?

The National Association of Agricultural Contractors (NAAC) in the UK has released its latest survey of contracting prices.
Not surprisingly, the organisation is also advising farmers and customers to expect price rises.

Apart from reducing your nitrogen usage in 2022 ;) I be interested to know how many have actually made change to reduce your carbon footprint over the past 3 years? Feel free to add what and why below.
I always await these reports with a sense of dread for what it holds for farming. Generally...
Fertiliser: updates and support
Written by The Team
The price of fertiliser has risen dramatically over the past year, but especially in recent months. Multiple global issues, including the war in Ukraine, have reduced gas and ammonium nitrate supply, forcing prices up.
We know the impact...
Could anyone tell me how much available npk units i have? spreading this slurry with dribble bar at 2000 gallon per acre?
Is it much good? Seems pretty low in nitrogen especially? Out suckled calf slats shed.
We’ve narrowed it down to a choice of two,
Major and Greencrop both look well made, major one has all outlets on the back ready for fill points the greencrop it’s an optional extra, major use vogelsang macerater and greencrop use alrena.
Out of the two which would be the better buy, not a real...
We're looking at possibly starting zero grazing again and due to only having 1 tractor and no front linkage/PTO we would buy a zero grazing forage wagon with a mower infront of the pickup.
Does anyone have any experience with these and know how good a job they do? After looking online it seems...
They were drilled in August, then grazed with sheep in January.
Hoping to take a 1st cut off them, then flip them over into maize.
Ideally want to get as much muck about as possible this spring with where fert prices are, do you think they're not too high and would take slurry from a splash plate?
I have just been accepted for the grant on a trailing shoe, however since putting in for it I have learnt that it would be too heavy for my current tanker and so am looking at either a Joskin, Hi spec or Major 2000g with a trailing shoe depending on what's in stock in time for the grant .

Hi everyone,
I was wondering where everyone has been planning to buy their grant items from? We are looking at the Tru Test Ezi Weigh 7i as well as the XRS2 Stick reader, I've seen both items on Massey Harpers Country Supplies https://farmersdirect.co.uk/the-farming-equipment-and-technology...
Looking to reduce fertiliser costs etc. Have been offered some FYM (Slurry) from Local farm which they will also spread. (About 800t) What sort money should I be offering in the current climate?
Thanks

Gains from improved milk prices could be eroded by high costs of nitrogen (N) fertiliser unless dairy farmers focus on producing good grass silage this season, said silage expert Ken Stroud of Volac.

Just looking for some advice, obviously nvz regs have now been lifted and I'm in a lucky/unlucky position (depending on how you look at it!) Of having a half empty slurry pit. On the plus side in no rush to spread, on the negative side slurry is liquid brown gold this year!
Is there an optimal...
just a matter of curiosity. If we are all forced into nvz and our contractors become to busy I suspect this is a route we will be forced down. We currently only run one tractor on the mixer wagon and our self employed tractor driver stores his tractor here which has now been roped in temporarily...
