“Stuck On” mud on roads - what’s the best kit

Even though we do our best to keep mud off the highway when foraging maize (we run two chaser bins and try to keep the trailers clean) we can’t avoid bringing out mud from time to time

I’m interested to know what’s the most effective kit for cleaning it up is - I’m considering a high pressure road washing jetter, does anyone run one?

*the caveat is I’m not interested on bucket brushes on loadalls / telehandlers - I’m worried about scraping the road up going forward (especially on cambered roads) and I don’t like the idea of driving in reverse on the highway

Thanks in advance

There’s only one option in my book. Hire a sweeper. Their problem, not yours. You’ve then covered yourself with a piece of paper to keep the council bods happy and indemnify you as much as possible against a claim should the worst happen.

Clipboard people don’t care how good a job you do, they just want it done by their book.

At £30/hour or so I’d say it’s fairly reasonable too.

Although we do everything in house, as we have it when we need it at a drop of a hat, you do make a very good point about ‘farming the responsibility’ out

Specifically - has anyone bought or made a high pressure road washing jetter?

We have a major tanker with their “road blaster” underneath - only issue is it’s too big and finding places to turn around is an issue

I’m looking at getting made a mounted high pressure road jetter like this

Better to mat the gate way and wash off before getting onto the road

Yes good suggestion (does anyone know where to buy the big plastic bog mats) - our idea along that line is to make a trailer with front and rear fold down ramps, drive over it and have two guys washing like mad.

Yes but mobile - we run a static wheel wash and it’s not the compete answer as you’d need to spin the wheels up (which means powered rollers for the trailer wheels)

if we build a slatted run over trailer it would need to be manned with two guys pressure washing

Any idea where to buy plastic bog mats from?!

I’m sure someone does a bucket brush that’s bracketed so that you drive forwards , just can’t remember who
Although water will also be needed to shift caked on mud.

There’s a thread running somewhere about the plastic bog mats, @ploughman1963 was looking for some, from what I gather from that thread they’re hard come by and expensive
