2000 JCB 2CX Streetmaster problem

I bought this amazing piece of kit for out trout farm about 8 yrs ago. We use it for nearly everything and having a narrow track and 4wheel steer/drive its really good for getting between the ponds , doing river work and off loading 24t of feed at a time..I couldn't do without it.
It's in really good nick, everything works , all the lights , wipers, indicators etc , paint is very good and when washed it looks like a 3yr old machine.
The only problem we have is starting it sometimes. On a normal day it'll fire right up from cold and then if you run it for say 2 mins and turn the engine off, when you go to start it again it's as though the battery is flat and turns over really slowly and won't start...if you keep trying eventually it fires up.
When I first bought it , I though it must be the battery so bought a new one...no difference. This year we changed the starter motor which was a pig of a job and hoped it was the fault..no difference!
I believe being a 2003 it has the Perkins 1004 Phazer non Turbo engine. It's very clean with no leaks.
Does anyone have any idea what is wrong? , I'm thinking the hydraulics must be loading up somewhere but wiggling all the levers and pedals in the cab does nothing.
It's very cold this morning and although it's slower than normal it fires right up with no pre heat , but run the engine for a minute or 2 , shut it off, try to start it again and it won't. Weird
It's not the alternator either, that is fine and can run all the light ,blower, wipers at once on tick over...also the battery is fully charged always.

Yeah I have and we ran another just in case using a jump lead but no different. Like I say it starts up perfect first thing and then if you turn it off It's not wanting to turn over fast enough to start, like the battery is totally flat, but it's not.
I wondered if these engines had a built in decompression for starting that was jamming closed but can't find any info on that.

Send a pic of the starter you fitted, theirs a high chance you fitted a poor replacement, i can supply a decent starter for you if that's the case.
(i would class any Lucas style starter a poor replacement even if it has a genuine perkins or JCB part number on it!)

Surely, it's not the starter as the OP says it starts from cold just fine, it's a second start that's the problem.
Could it be a blocked filter, causing back pressure on hyd pump?

Fitting a high power starter to a Perkins cures lots of woes in my experience.had two similar bad starting teleporters, both Perkins 1004 ,a turbo and a non turbo, and both cured with mahle starters.never did find any other problems.

I don't think the old starter was bad, it's just that's all we could do, the new one acts in exactly the same way. Starts fine when cold.
I don't think it's a case of letting it go cold but something needs time to do something before we can start it again.
So on Friday ( it was cold) I started it , drove it 2 mins max to a job on the farm, shut the engine off and then realised I needed the forks a bit higher , got back in and its WA WA WA WA . .only way I can describe it but just like a very flat battery.
Kept trying it and on the 20th attempt it fired right up, I had wiggled all the hydraulics in the meantime and it was in Neutral.
New Hydraulic filter last year, old one in there was clean.

Here's a photo of the machine in question, like I say I couldn't manage with out it, it's like having Hercules working for you.

I'd still go for the starter motor being the fault, and yes it's pig to do without the right spanner to get to the back bolt.

But if it's so essential to your business it's worth getting an auto electrician to look at it for a proper diagnosis.

Can't imagine how you've put up with for 8 years though.

I get what you're saying but why would it be fine one minute and then useless the next? If it was bad when cold and good when warm I could understand it but it's the opposite almost.
I must admit though , what else could it be?

Have you tried starting it and holding the bucket crowd or loader down etc in work? That would give the hydraulic oil somewher to go if it does actually feel like it’s dea ending a service.

Yeah I have , all of the hydraulics

Send pic of starter. I will almost bet money the old one was past it and the new cheap sh1t excuse for a Lucas replacement is worse than one you took off!

If it has the hydraulic priority valve like I think it might then hydraulics will be under load on start up sometimes from cold but often after it's been run. If so there wouldnt be anything wrong with it just how they are and a proper starter will over come this issue.
A serial number might help too advanced bring up pics of hydraulic circuit on parts site.
