2011 Touareg as a towing car

VW fit an upgraded fan with a factory fitted towbar and recommend you fit one with an aftermarket towbar. I had a towbar fitted to my 3 litre and was told that they fitted them for the local VW dealer and it was not needed with our climate in the UK. I have towed an Ifor Williams trailer with my tractor and match plough on which would be around 3.3 tonnes and a 2tonne caravan on an extremely hot day with the temperature gauge not moving off 90c.
As towing vehicle it is very stable with plenty of torque. Mine does not have a low transfer box but do not find it a problem on road as it has an 8 speed gearbox with a quite low first gear.
Some models have a low box and diff locks and maybe better for towing off road so it could be worth while searching for one of these.

Had a 2011 Touareg for 5 years.
Good towing car although not as stable as disco 4 towing heavy Bulls
Now have disco 5 great machine but not as stable towing heavy loads as disco 4 probably because it's lighter

I had an 08 Touareg with the 6 speed auto. 2011 might be the mk11 with 8 speed auto. Really liked it for towing, much more planted than my current Navara NP300. Ran it in sport mode if I had a heavy trailer load on. Had over 4 tonne on at times with a trailer load of incalf heifers and was no bother. Front tyre wear and general reliability was another issue!

plenty of aftermarket versions available nowadays, which retain steering wheel controls, cameras etc. May lose some functions, but much better than 6k
