A General Election

Next tory PM ought to call an election, let labour in and take all the flak for a bleak winter and 2023 with all the cuts needed to prop the country up and then get back in when its looking brighter.
Johnson will be thinking exactly this but not with an election for Labour, rather letting Sunak do the dirty work, and then hit the rocks completely through the next 2 years.Just enough time left to put Johnson back in to fight the next election. Partygate inquiry but a distant memory by then.

Saw that and while the aims for some of it are ok there is a complete lack of reality of how it would be A be achieved or B what the back up system for when the sun and wind dont play ball. They talk of relying on interconnectors to other countries, well if they are relying on wind and sun they will be short too or are they saying they will use electric from nuclear or fossil fuels as long as it's from the uk, they want low input farming and more ground for renewables where is the food coming from ?
I then moved on to the animal welfare link, that's even more amusing, they want animals to have "rights" all shooting is to be banned and even vermin control severely restricted, will that include rats and mice, why should they be treated differently than other animals ? No cages for any birds, does that include budgies and parrots, oh not forgetting all zoos to close and no use of dead rats etc for medical students to practice on.

Yeah, well, at least the cuckoo's aren't in cages (y) .

There's a shed load of animal welfare legislation in place today, that UK farmers actively use today to promote the high welfare standards of the industry, that was campaigned for by the GP, and was resisted/ derided by the industry for years.

That would be wonderful if it resulted in a premium for our produce but it doesn't, foreign goods produced by worse standards & produced more cheaply because of that undermine our markets!
It's like saying the UK can only build Rolls Royce cars but everybody buys cheap imported cars so Rolls Royce must sell at a loss.

But will the Green Party campaign for no imports below our environmental/animal welfare standards or are they hypocrites?

Yes, that is wrong, and it needs addressing, but it is a different point from the one I was making.

I'm sure they will. Point me to a coherent policy from the NFU on it and I am sure the GP would support it.

edit: from the manifesto

Trade Deals should ensure that imported food is produced in accordance with UK environmental, animal welfare and conditions of work standards.

Most folks on here vote Conservative.
The Conservative party takes money, constantly, from the cartel.
Money that is handed over to ensure that Government policy never, in any shape or form, stands in the way of the cartel.
So that their control over the food chain, specifically the primary producer, can become ever more dominant.
You are voting for your own destruction.

But perhaps slower than voting for any alternative, as has been many times people often vote for the least worse option to keep the even worse ones out

How do you know that ?

So many answers....
Because both sides of my family, as far back as recorded history goes, farm, and they all vote Tory (well, there are suspicions about one, but she sensibly keeps quiet about it).
Because when the road signs come out it's a very rare thing to see a poster in a hedge that isn't Tory.
Because I read what is posted on here, and it's like stumbling into the bar at a Conservative Association club.
