Ad blue in cars

Just had the warning ad blue instruction come up on VW Tiguan.
Can I just use tractor ad blue or is there a different spec for cars and different engines? TIA

Just don't overfill it, can cause some grief if you do. It can appear to the computer that you have not put any in at all, and then it will give you the message " your car will not start in 250 miles" then 200 and so on and then it's trip to the dealers because none of the independant garages know what to do or can't get the software to sort it out.

I bought a small proper bottle which shuts off when there's enough in the tank, then refill that over and over

Hiluxes take ordinary AdBlue ok. As above, the proper container is best as the Toyota dealers will get shirty if asked to deal with AdBlue warranty issues and there is evidence of spillage from sloppy filling.

We did fill up a discovery sport from the farm tank and it threw a warning about Adblue quality.
Ended up draining it and buying genuine Land Rover Adblue - another con.

All the brand new tractors and wagons are perfectly fine with Adblue from the same tank.

The only way a vehicle could know about the quality of adblue, or more to the point whether its the right make is if there's something added to it for a sensor to pick up. Like husqvarna oil guard 2 stroke oil but for adblue.

Haven't had any issues with my ford transit with regards over filling, have always filled it right up... Mostly cause the "warning" kicks in at a ridiculous 1500 miles to 'empty' and beeps every few miles from that point.... And a typical 10L tub only lasts like 2000 miles before warning is back on 🙄.. so it gets the 25L tub we use on farm

must be something wrong with it! just got a new MAN TGE otherwise known as a VW crafter, add blue tank is 18litres, filled it when new, done over 2k miles in it and the add blue range says its good for another 8500 miles, so looking like doing 11k miles per 18 litres add blue :)

I'd rather be using more adblue and less egr. A lot of people whine about adblue use but don't consider that adblue is a more fuel efficient way of reducing emissions than egr so what you're spending on adblue you're saving in fuel 🤷‍♂️

We have 6 customs at work and all are sh!t on ad blue range. I believe they have a 20L tank (based on how much it takes to fill) only get 5-6k out of a tank. That's doing ~3k motorway miles a month.

Keep in mind adblue or DEF has a shelf life and is sensitive to mixture, so if you use some from a 50 gallon container for example the more sensitive motor vehicle may set codes for fluid quality. It'll work sure, but I would just run the regular stuff that you can buy at the parts store for the vehicles ;) Heck, I've seen a guy just keep reusing the plastic screw on nozzles before and the added dried powdering junk that had built up in the nozzle threw the mixture off enough to set fluid quality codes :/

Not true. We are using a 4 year old ibc of adblue which was left over from a hired tractor. We’ve no other adblue things apart from 4 cars which have been using this ibc the last 2 years without any issue.
