Air Compressor for Orby Feeders

We have Orby Feeders in our Parlour and every 15 months or so the compressor packs up. We used to use 50ltr compressors and then we were told to use 100ltr compressors as it wouldn’t be starting and stopping as often. No difference, from what we see. In fact they tend to breakdown quicker and too costly to fix.

Anyone else using air to run their parlour feeders and if so what are you using?

Another compressor packed up this morning hence this post.

Is it running on and off all day due to leaks, or just during milking?

We had orby feeders in our last parlour and the came compressor for maybe 10 years and it's been another 4 years in our new one. It's pretty big though, maybe 200 or so belt driven three phase thing

Never had a belt driven one. Any advantages?

Not sure what the advantages would be, think it's more common in the larger sized compressors. We had more bother with the solonoids going on the side of the feeders or cows pulling the wires out of them as we had a low ceiling

We’ve got a bigger 3 phase version of this:
Bought in farm sale. Never looked back

Avoid cheap piston type compressors. Hydrovane and service it when required. But different price league to piston type.
