Alpha flail mower

Yes, I have used one to clear some gorse and bracken on steep slopes and was very impressed. They are very robust and will eat through 4" gorse stems ok. My only reservation is that they will eat such tough stuff that you are more likely to damage the tractor while driving over the stuff you are clearing than damage the flail. There is a reason that serious flails are front mounted with a push bar to semi flatten the brush as you go over it.
Bolts that hold the flails need to be done up seriously tight though.

Not seen these before, any idea of thickness of steel on their xhd+ model, look competitive price wise with 5 belts and tensioner and 3 year warranty on gearbox.

They are Chinese built; found them on alibaba if you want to save some money!
Yes they are Chinese which is why I was even more gobsmacked at what they would do. I have just looked at the metal on there; the thinnest sheet is 5mm, most is 6mm and bits that do need more strength are 12mm. I do not own the one I have been using so am not biased, nor have I used any other similar machine so cannot make comparisons.

Having re-read the site I now see it refers to alpha having designed the xhd + flail mowers no mention of country of manufacture. Looks like they do manufacture some smaller equipment in Scotland but assume they would splash it all over if they were producing these bigger ones.

Just had rep. On the phone from Alpha?, smaller cheaper models are Chinese built, bigger ones now called max are assembled in Scotland using Italian gearbox, bodywork is Chinese into which they assemble off the shelf bearings and belts. They will send one on approval for one to test and have back if not happy. I am tempted to try one as they are competitively priced. Be happy to hear of anyone else's experience of their use.

Got a weblink?

I cant find it, but I was looking for other makes of flails with a helical rotor and alibaba came up with the exact same machine. I think the minimum order is 5 and im looking for a 1.6m version. if 4 others want one, im happy to participate.
Ill go back through my search history and see if I can find it, but I am supposed to be at my assignment -so cant distract for too long.

I’m planning to call the rep tomorrow, hopefully they will send one north for a trial.

I am the man!!!
One that has just arrived is very different spec to that shown, I should be able to give it a run out tomorrow or Saturday on 8 acres which has had a hard time since last autumn's attempted reseed. Those who have seen it advise it is heavier built than Kuhn and weaving.

show some photos!
Will get some photos of pasture I reset this afternoon in the p***ing rain, runs very smoothly behind the old case 1494 4wd, set it to top height as lowest level only left about 2 inches of stubble. Toppings were mulched well about 2 inches in length and evenly spread. Easy field as nice and level. Will do some thistly ridge and furrow later in the week, it is heavy 940kg, first impressions are very good, I do like the side shift never had a topper with that before.
