I currently have a tracking drawbar trailed sprayer which I use on my mainline tractor. Am I mad wanting to swap the sprayer for a secondhand self propelled. My cropping is mainly cereals and beans occasionally osr. Apart from harvest help I do mainly everything myself with the tractor apart from heavy cultivation as I hire a man and tractor for this. This autumn was wet as we all know. I couldn’t get some crops sprayed as the sprayer wheels stop turning so nervous about getting stuck/ making a mess. The advantages of self propelled in my view is high clearance in beans/osr, less crop damage and a option to go liquid fert if see the need. This would mean my main tractor would not be on rowcrop wheels in summertime so better for field work in early harvest. Downsides I see, slower road speed, less comfort on the road/ in the field. I do travel around 8-10 miles for contract spraying so I will spend some time on the road. Total area sprayed per year 1500ha.
