Morning All,

what with the weather and the Christmas break the drill was left in the shed with wheat seed in it.

Since then rodents have been having a field day they’ve eaten through wires, chewed some plastic bits and been pulling the wheat out from the meter wheels (after gnawing them flat in places)

Question is do we now have to replace the metering wheels or when we calibrate it as it is should it be ok?

Looks like a big job to take the shaft out and replace the cogs?

TIA
Gary

You will need to replace the damaged metering wheels, a hard lesson learned.

I've seen this before, no sure about Amazone, but you can usually un-bold the metering shaft mountings, disconnect the drive coupling and lift the whole thing out in a one'er.

On a box Vaddy the shaft slides out and the metering wheels drop into the cups, allowed a day for 2 of us, took 2 hours. The next time i did it on my own, but a tad more fiddly.

I would pressure wash that seed treatment off the peg wheels before you put it away, and spray with diesel. Then clean off again before using it.

Normally do that at the end of season, damn weather left us only 12 acres to plant, but it’s still water logged now (ex spud ground) don’t think we’ll drill it till next month now. Dad has taken the seed out for now.

If youve got drilling to do crack on, after its been up a month you wont know which coulters were the iffy ones. My mate drilled with a freeflow which had sulky metering for years with badly rat eaten metering wheels and his corn was always alright and you couldnt see and difference in the rows.

Ideally if you dont need to be using it then change the wheels, it looks a right twit of a job but from my experience there quite straight forward to do.
