As above really. Halfway through June now, no sign of any decent weather on the horizon for the next week or so, or indeed to the end of the month. I managed about 6 or 7 acres this time last week, mowed it on the Sunday, baled it late Wednesday afternoon. Looks decent stuff, was baled about 15-20% moisture with additive to make sure, no heat in the stack so should be fine. Anyone else managed to make a start?
You can’t expect much from 2nd cut yetMine is only about 10 inches tall after a cut of silage few weeks back.hopefully rain and then some sun will make it grow
Nick...
last three years we have been almost done by end of june this is just going to be more of a normal year, at least july hay is quicker to makeHaymaking weather stopped happening in 1975...
If you ignore last year’s glorious weather of course and that hay was traditionally made mid-July.
Dont think silage would have been made if weather was that much better years agoIt's difficult for us to think that in bygone days all cattle and the vast numbers of work horses were winter fed on only hay. I don't know if the weather was really much different. But I do know that the introduction of nitrogen made things a lot more difficult. Crops are earlier, twice the bulk, and full of sap.
that high pressure is over germany / finland , been over 30c last week , it isnt far away but not moving yet , according to early forcasts was supposed to be sat over us this summer , just shows how a few 00 miles can makea lot of difference ,This time last year Drought conditions and 33oC.
All hay finished.
This year Longest day is nearly here and nothing done yet?
Next week looks bad too?
No June Hay about this year!
