I baled a few more arable margins yesterday, avoiding torrential downpours by not that many miles, there were floods not far east and south of me apparently. Small bales, probably will not be very special hay despite plenty of additive, but strangely enough thats exactly what I wanted, as I'm getting more and more enquiries for bales for events, and I don't like sending out decent hay when its just going to get chucked away after the wedding reception, or barn dance or whatever. But I can get the same for those sort of bales as average quality 'proper' hay, so its good to have something in stock that can be sold for that specific purpose.

I shall round bale the last few bits next week, all the bits under heavy shading, they'll be rubbish and will be used as pheasant shelters on the game strips. And that will be the end of the hay season for me(y)(y)
It's been a funny old season!

1in of rain here yesterday, so badly needed, made carting interesting, I was really lucky, wouldn't want to risk that again, weather definitely gone full circle now. Feeding this weeks hay out already, going down well. Should finish carting today, seem to have been at it forever on my own now.

We have done 40 acres of silage. Our hay fields are not even knee high yet too dry. Been buying haylage locally to stock up because I predict high price year!!

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
