I've never used a moisture meter, just the big bale contractor had one on his baler. Possibly the last field I shall ever bale, was a day late getting to it though sun was taking some colour out of it, still nice hay though.

Baled yesterday, 760 little bales of lovely sweet smelling meadow hay. Think it's the best I've made.
Headlands were wrapped the day before, and even though I hadn't turned it at all it was almost too dry.
Cut some yesterday morning but it's got a bit of rye in it and now not sure we're going to get the weather.... didn't cut much fortunately.

Does that mean its going to be cheap and plentiful? We have made twice as much as normal. I'd guess its the same over the country. I think we'll need a hard winter to sell all of ours! But there'll be less silage here.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.
