travelled ok this afternoon, better than I thought so 2nd time round all done wheat /barley , cutting grass and all grazing fields finished. No mess to speak of other than a couple of gateways and the odd wet patch missed but waiting for them to dry would be a pain, we will go back when we can travel to top up and with the damp surface its melting in so just need it to warm up all looks fairly well apart from one late sown 8 acre which is a tad thin and getting murdered with crows and rabbits but like them im a happy bunny now

How much N applied to cereals so far total?

Been at it here aswell.put the rest of the nitrogen on the rape before it gets too tall.some 3ft high now.also put some more nitrogen and sulphur on the wheat and barley.travelled very well despite 6mm on Monday.no wind when I started but breeze got up a bit during the day.double top and nitram flowed slower than last time in cooler conditions despite using the same settings.

had a recheck from different source reckons 11mm still nowhere near 37thankfully, but my agronomist tells me it wont have disapeared still not convinced we applied 3 sorts yesterday urea ,blue bag and n plus sul anyone think there is any difference re losses due to the amount of rain.

edit. just done a little unscientific exp handful of each in a bucket of water shaken not stirred urea gone almost instantly, 34.5 n not as quick, nplus s slowest to dissolve of the three unsurprisingly we applied most in reverse i.e more urea acres

Just about to start the last dose of liquid N on osr just as the wind changes to the east & starts blowing hard for a week. At least thsi means the soil should dry out & we'll be able to finish the drilling. No crop scorch from liquid N applied to the soil pre emergence as long as the seed is covered.

Last dose of n, or just last dose of liquid n?
I have only got one dose on so far. Will do 2nd Monday, 3rd mid flower and maybe a 4th at petal fall.

That's early to be finishing N ? Done 1/3rd here and will leave the last 2/3rds as late as we dare

Have done all our N. Late as possible to travel with solid fert. It's going to be in flower pretty soon.

Sounds like your crops are about 2 weeks ahead of up here

I know farms locally that haven't been through wheat with first dressing yet

Solids do limit timings as well, another good reason for liquid I guess

Wheat and barley is much more variable though.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
