Tbf the most of them I've come across you you couldn't trust as far as you could throw them.
I have no problem with any of them in this area we no them all by name and they all stop and talk in the yardI'm probably going to get a load of agro for saying this, but....
To be fair, not all the "travellers" are bad - it seems that there's a relatively high proportion that are. You don't hear much about the decent ones because they mostly get on with life & don't cause problems, whereas we obviously are aware of what the bad ones get up to & they tend to be the ones being very vocal about being oppressed.
We tend to judge the pikeys in much the same way that England is judged by the behaviour of our football hooligans or the young folks going drinking in Magaluff, but they only represent a small proportion of our society.
For me, Gypsies are those of typically Romany descent, Travellers are the more modern breed tending to have Irish accents & Pikeys are the scum...
same with usWe used to have a Romany family with the caravan and horses camp for about six weeks every year on the side of a back road near a farm where I worked in the early 80's. The one thing I always remember is every-time they left the only way you could tell they had ever been there was the grass had all been flattened off.
Please do not classify fairground operators in the same category. They have a travelling lifestyle but are prepared to work long hours in all weathers to support there families.
I agree to a certain extent but from past knowledge most of what you have said is mainly by "normal" house living people from average backgrounds just being "greedy"There's more goodness in a fag butt, yeh there great people till they nick ur quad, timber processor, trailer battery off the tractor or electric fence, driving around looking over the hedges and in the yard with those little Rodent eyes, can't stand em.
Used to see a Gypsy with a hose and cart quite regularly back home years ago. Never any problem, would make clothes pegs and the like to sell on the road side. Was a pleasure to see them to be honest.
Dad has had a “settled” Gypsy come and paint his sheds for as long as I can remember. Hell of a nice chap!
Then there are the... call them what you will; pikies, travellers etc etc. Cornwall Council have given up evicting them from Council property, presumably because of the cost and hassle, and now spend hundreds of thousands of pounds building them permanent sites so they can thieve their way round a parish in comfort before moving on and leaving he Council to clear up the sh1t they leave behind! They built one such site just down the road from home on a Council farm with 6 or 7 pitches. Now they’re expanding it because the travellers want more pitches as well as toilets and showers! I believe the expansion is costing c£300,000 but they can’t afford to fill in the pot holes or keep mental health facilities open in the county!
It’s no wonder people don’t like them!
Don’t suppose you’ll see any where you are now.
