Hi I am looking at a new to me tractor. 2014 or newer. Have an older cvx which has spoilt me so taught I would go for similar again.
Looking at puma 160 or equivalent in New Holland. Don't know much about them or what to look for. Was told the vario is repairable is that true. Are they reliable.
Work will be ploughing and sowing and will have loader fitted.

Buy the case version,no cruise control but better controls.
If having a loader buy one with the mid mount spools and joystick.
Apparently it’s the easiest gearbox to remove,no need to split the tractor.
Reliable because you can’t really abuse them.

I test drove a cvx version and was impressed able to use lever and foot pedal. Didn't realise there was difference between the new Holland controls and case.

Buy the blue version as New Holland appears to have got first choice as to which cab controls went in there tractors. Case had to make do with what was left over.

weve owned both so I’m speaking from an ownership point of view. Mechanically there identical and yes they do go wrong and it’s expensive to fix them. But then a powershift gearbox isn’t cheap to repair either and the vario versions are so much better in every way.

Power shift gearbox is more expensive to repair than the vario, but they are both mega ££s to fix if they go wrong, mainly because of the labour charges.

Buy the one you like/most suitable for the job
