Avatar power requirement?

Like many, I expect, I have the option of accepting a grant for a direct drill. Have Avatar quotes, for the options I believe we need, 6M & 8M both show a good payback on planned usage on 3 years of SFI and commercial expected use. So which one? Want to remain flexible,; not 'need' the crawler to 'have' to pull the drill. Do not want to be back in the same situation(I do not think we are) by going ahead. So, experience of width, HP, drill loading & topography welcomely received....

Been pulling a 6m twin tank with 6155R since 2020. Last year upgraded to a 6R 155 on 710 tyres with wheel weights as grip was the only issue if going up banks. Could boost power to 185 but not really been an issue.
Used to be a 6m Sprinter with 270hp!

I only have limited experience with a 6m Avatar. Cutting wheat seed into frozen but cultivated clay in a hard frost took all the 200hp on the front to travel at 10 kph. Hills, seed depth nd how tight the surface would make a difference here. What have you got available?

Its very much soil dependent as my neighbour runs a 6m on a 250hp 7250 magnum and it makes it work hard. But the soil type is clay with long undulating slopes, where as you tube shows you 12m on 250hp.

we have pulled a 12 m with a 724 (240hp) for 5 seasons now

it’s a great combination on right tyres and weighted correctly uses circa 3L/ha

we don’t have really heavy soils but we do have hills

most farmers seem to put far to much hp ( weight !) on their direct drills. ……… i guess old habits are hard to break

But it does depend on how far into the no-till journey you are, also are people truly doing no-till or a type of min-till, I talk to people who claim to be no-till who are still rotationally tilling which could be right for their farming system and as I have said many a time NO-TILL should not become a religion but a tool to increase margins if it fits!(ie you can make it work for your business)
