Bank Closing Down

I am sure this has been covered before, but our local branch of Lloyds is closing down, meaning the next closest will be a 30 mile plus round trip.
I still seem to go to the Bank every week. I could insist on everyone paying by BACS but that might be difficult, I also get paid cash occasionally.

I can pay into the Post Office, but there is always a queue there and I think it takes longer for cheques to clear.
I believe the only bank that will be left in our local town will be Nationwide. Has anyone any experience of them as I am tempted to move some accounts to them?
Hi,
The last time i went to pay in a cheque at a local branch of Lloyds, there was a member of staff keen
to show me how to use a machine in the wall, which scanned the cheque, and after i'd typed in my
sort code and account number, printed out a copy of the cheque, together with the time and a
reference number for the transaction. Taking into account how many supermarkets have automatic
self-scanning counters, maybe the time will come when a local bank will consist of these "customer
use self help machines" with just one member of staff on hand to help out- OR as someone has
already mentioned, you could scan at home using your printer/scanner, and using secure e-mail
send the details to the bank ??

Banking cash!!! That’s why god gave us a sock draw!!!![/QUOTE]

the whole point of cash is to be untraceable, that's what I thought :)
once its banked, it s on the record . . .

not that I get paid in cash very often

a year or 2 ago, things were very tight financially, so I sold my Isuzu crew cab
the buyer WANTED to pay in cash. Private sale, no invoice / receipt or records . . .
at the time, my overdraft was that big & I owed that much money, that anything banked just disappeared into a big black hole, without being able to use it
anyway, I put $18000 in cash in my desk drawer, & we basically lived off that for nearly a year

We use Nationwide for all personal banking and really rate their service, had house mortgages with them, however they won't open business accounts/do business mortgages.

I’m really surprised that this is coming as a shock to some this progress most on here clamber for is going to effect everything from dealer showrooms to banking local pubs and shops it’s all going to go mechanicalisation computerilisation they don’t want staff / buildings to run it’s only going to get worse be careful what you wish for the future is here and I personally don’t like what I see

Come on people, many areas have not had a bank branch for years. Cheques are antiquated, why the hell would anyone want to write numbers on a piece of paper, jump in a vehicle or public transport, drive to an old building that sells nothing, wait in a queue, fill in another piece of paper and give the said papers to a person who then precedes to look at the very screen you could have at home, then wait for at least three days for it to clear. Jump back into the vehicle, (or wait for the bus/train) drive home (after buying a pie) and find the postman has delivered another piece of paper with numbers on !!

I presume they have removed all the post boxes as well.Post can take as well as deliver cheques.

I quite like the social side of going into the bank. In fact a year ago I was delighted to get a cheque so I could go in and ogle the stunning lass who was behind the counter.

Was gutted when she came in with a massive glittering ring on her finger one day:(

Yes, there are down sides to the Shop, Pub, Post Office, Bank, Filling Station etc closing in rural areas.

But, there's always,Match, Tinder etc, you will just have to hope your prefect women doesn't get lost looking for the place :)

post office sends cheques to a central sorting place, Leeds in my case,I know this as they once lost one of mine (congrats to british gas for sending a new cheque promptly), then it appears on my statement as 'paying in machine' so maybe they do scan it.
