Standing straw sales have kicked off.

Wheat around £90/98 acre

Barley around £105/115 acre..

Dealers quoting £100t delivered in off the field so that makes ex farm off the field worth £60/70 ton..

Guess one of the biggest cattle finishers in the SW would have been pushing the trade hard to get his shed filled up..

Seems to be a shortage of standing straw locally due to digestor feed atock.

Been offered £30/t in the swath, Bedfordshire, seems about right. By the time they’ve baled, carted, stored and delivered to SW can’t be a huge profit?!

that's the kind of numbers being talked about around here - should equate to 50-60/ac I think on decent crops of wheat ?

Well I wasn't there as I have far too much to do this week but maybe one of the largest cattle finishers in the SW was there!

Thou im told it was your mates the Arla boys who were driving the trade....

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
