Just so I know exactly what you’re asking, do you mean what £/MW you can achieve on the export of the energy on the wholesale market on this scale?

The battery storage will definitely help, as it can allow you to export at times of your choosing to benefit from preferential rates. However rates are always dependant upon demand in your area and suppliers need, so I’m afraid there’s no one size fits all answer.

We’re a specialist renewable energy consultancy, as well as commercial electrical contractors. We work with 15+ energy suppliers who purchase energy from our direct customer base. If you’d like me to start speaking to my contacts about what is achievable for your site specifically, please feel free to just drop me an email at [email protected], and I can start obtaining indicative quotes and doing some financial analysis for you.

I would be extremely wary of batteries make sure you have an absolute watertight lease drawn up by the best solicitors money can buy.
The fall out from a battery fire could be horrendous and if the tenant disappears who picks up the pieces? A few ? hundred acres of heavily polluted ground could cost millions to put right

the tenant leaving / going bust shouldn’t be an issue with the right contract.

they either have to insure against a full ‘return site as it was before they moved in’ or have a sensible bond in an escrow which is there if it should be Needed.

this is when specialist lawyers are worth their weight in gold!

If the tenant had no money for insurance and has gone pop ?

that's an odd size but certainly a decent crop! good for you, they don't call it the Solar Coaster without due reason as @MrNoo will testify!!

Battery costs seem high still now the grants have fallen away. We had a 16mg site which is still pending

I think if you have a decent connection capacity then maybe they wont put storage in?? We only have 10M connection now from an original 24M (due to them dicking around for so long) but they plan to still build out a 20M site and have 20M storage with import and export, think the import/export is the important thing for them, charge when it's cheap and discharge when the price is high. There is a website somewhere of a delayed live price of elec during the the 24hr period, it's quite interesting in it's fluctuations.

its an interesting topic.

covid has caused turmoil, due to the low demand they have shut of some big fossil fuel outputs and tried to manage the grid with more renewables. At times they have been paying mega prices for instant power when the poo has hit the fan.

batteries need to come down in price then they will have a good use at peak hours but the costs to do so (including our rents ;-) ) are slowing things up it seems.

very true! this is why the council loves these sites. The planning fees can be upwards of £250k on the big schemes so they welcome them in with nice pre app advice then shaft them for 2 years over the planning application

if that comes off then they can try and charge rates on top.

all this does is jack the cost of renewable power up making fossil fuels more viable, whilst in the same breath they then issue statements on how they want to be carbon neutral by next week.

Not wrong, all our energy will be Warrington District Councils and yet Cotswold District will be charging rates. You'd think they'd wisen up and build sites in their own yard and do away with business rates. But agreed, money for nothing for them!
