BCMS Delays For Passports and Changes

I made an error and managed to register the wrong calf to a pedigree cow and had to send back the passport to get it changed.
Then the cow I had incorrectly registered it to had a calf, but so as not to compound the error I have been waiting for the change to be made, it is now over a month!!

I notice that even new passport applications are taking a long time.
I presume this is due to them being on strike.
Anyone else having issues?

I don't know why we cannot self register all births on line, it would reduce the need for so many people at BCMS, after all we have to complete all the necessary information!!

Of course you can register births online. Don’t you use CTS?

I used to think bcms were good 😂 scott eid blow them out the water ! Fantastic service, just thought id tell you 😂
To be honest, I find them slower at getting passports back than BCMS.

It isn't a issue. Someone told me the passports are printed in the central belt.

They are extremely helpful.

Yes all done on line, but from the time you do it to getting the passports back has got much longer. It isn't a live system where you can see when the registration is put on. I guess someone has to manually input what we have registered.
It would also be far better if those that were registered the wrong sex could be changed on line.

Why are you in a hurry for them back?

Why do we need paper passports for cows anyway ? Just have them all online

My pet gripe........ get sent the passports for cattle with your name on it and you still have to put a bloody sticker on it ! Why ? Another time consuming exercise that could be scrapped.

Sorry, I realise that my response was a bit abrupt!

We generally are registering births most days and I agree that it does appear the passports are taking longer to return.
We had a similar problem with an incorrect dam being registered against a calf and speaking to BCMS, it is quite a convoluted process as the person on the end of the phone has to manually change the data on their screen then when you are happy the details are correct, this gets pinged off to the printers.

I guess they wont allow you to make alterations yourself as it would be very open to fraud.

It would be very open to people making addation errors and would make the system more complex to use for everyone as the documentation would need to be larger to cover it.

If you apply for the pport now they will throw it up as you need to apply within 28days of birth i think, best adjust the DOB

I would agree but be careful what you wish for…… still licking wounds from having WLA rejected by farmers, I guarantee they’ll be back with far more restrictive, awkward and legislative b0llocks.

The cow that he first put down as calving in the initial cock-up, which hadn't actually calved, has now calved and I'm guessing that time is going on to get it's passport applied for.

You are correct and I will have to delete it now!! It would have been Ok if it had been a bull calf, but it is a heifer I will keep.
