Dawn are £3.42 a the mo
The last thing we need is more folk lambing later.as above , just looking at sedge reports , the arse is falling out the lamb trade , can only go down from now on i would think , more coming on stream every week . and as these lambs would have been eating more expensive creep this year , not good margins
I would say this is an unusually kind spring which has seen lambs thrive and are coming to market quicker than they may have ever done. If they hit £2 a kg people will sit on them to get heavier weights, hoggets are drying up too . We pitched 80 less lambs than last year due to drought last year and i am sure this will be across the board. Looking at it glass half full and lambs are looking good and will not need so much creep from now onas above , just looking at sedge reports , the arse is falling out the lamb trade , can only go down from now on i would think , more coming on stream every week . and as these lambs would have been eating more expensive creep this year , not good margins
That again was unusual as we had such a bad winter and the meat was not on the sheeps back so meat was short. I see the price this year as being about the norm going forward although there is now a rush with new seasons due to "the good weather"Hoggs are a hell of a lot less money than this time last year that’s for sure £30 in some cases however if you factor in the death and extra feed last year maybe there’s not as much difference as first thought
Yes absolutely every year is differentThat again was unusual as we had such a bad winter and the meat was not on the sheeps back so meat was short. I see the price this year as being about the norm going forward although there is now a rush with new seasons due to "the good weather"
Are the cull cows Angus aswell? If so pickstock give an extra 25p for them on the Angus scheme!Got an Angus steer booked in at £3.90 and 2 cull cows going with him at £3 sounds pretty good to me. Think base was £3.50 for clean beef. Pickstocks were £2.85 for cows.
Edit. At abp.

their cancelling cattle left, right and centre this week and lastSometimes they drop the price to scare farmers into selling cause they are short of cattle
People held on to cattle because of predicted price rises in may/june and now theres a glut everytime the price jumps abit . There getting keener on the cows though which helps.their cancelling cattle left, right and centre this week and last
